A tradition since my childhood which has lasted for Maelee is my Grandma's Santa party. It used to always be on Christmas Eve and almost all the cousins would be there. But states and busy lives separate us more now than before. We still have the Santa party, but its usually not on Christmas Eve and everyone that can come does. We have food and visiting at my Grandma's house then when the time is right jingle bells can be heard outside while Santa parks his sleigh. Then he rings Grandma's doorbell and Santa empties his bag of wonderful things on the family. For a long time my Dad was always the one in the Santa suit, but it was passed on to each of my brothers and for 3 years Frank got to do it. This year Maelee's beloved Uncle Selby got to be Santa. There were some last minute beard complications, but luckily Uncle Selby (or "Elby" as Maelee calls him) has a nice thick goatee that could be painted white. Frank and I made bets on if Maelee would be scared of Santa or not. Frank said yes, I said no. She wasn't scared at all. We had to hold her back from going to Santa before it was her turn. She knew that voice and wasn't at all afraid of Santa. When it was her turn to sit on Santa's lap we later learned she whispered "Elby?" with a smile.
